This half term our is 'Things that move (Animals)'. over the past two weeks we have been reading 'The Snail and the Whale' and 'Twist and hop minibeast bop' and have worked very hard on learning the Makaton signs for the animals and minibeasts in the stories.
In Maths this term, we continue to focus on one number each week. Over the past two weeks we have been learning about the numbers 8 and 9. We have looked at different ways in which we can represent these numbers (e.g. 8 jumps, 9 claps), as well as continuing to work on careful counting.
In Phonics, we continue to learn about one phoneme (individual sounds) per week. Over the past two weeks we have looked at 'h' (hat, horse, helicopter) and 'b' (ball, bus, book). Each week we continue to work on our segmenting and blending skills, which help us to break down the different sounds in words and then blend them together again to remake the word (e.g. h/a/t & b/a/ll).
We made the snail from one of our focus books, 'The Snail and the Whale'. We used our fine motor skills to roll up the snail, stick it on a rock and then draw its face.
In Computing, we have been learning about following simple instructions to find a specific website / app and play a game using it (busy things). We continue to work on other digital skills by using the chrome tabs and a stylus to draw a person.
In Art, we have been mark making to different pieces of music. The aim of this activity is to develop mark making skills without any pressure of trying to make a drawing which look like something else. This activity also aims to help the children make links between the marks that they are making and how they might feel when they are making them. We have also been exploring how to create different textures by taking surface rubbings around the classroom and playground.
In Music, we learning about the instrument the cello. We have looked at what it looks like, how it is played and the types of sounds that it makes (high or low, long or short).
We all enjoyed taking part in the school wide Science workshop during science week. In Nursery our focus was on animals where we got to look at models of different animals teeth and moulds of different animals feet. We also learnt about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and how their teeth are different. We the had a go at sorting animal toys into different categories.
