Year 4 have been very busy researching different stages of the excavation of the city of Pompeii. This week, we have written newspaper reports making sure to include different features of a newspaper article. In Reading we have been working hard on developing our retrieval and inference skills, and have especially enjoyed reading and exploring the first chapter of 'The Wild Robot'. In Maths, we have been working on adding and subtraction with renaming within 10,000, building upon our mathematical skills learned from previous years. During Science lessons, we explored producers, prey and predators in the food chain. And in History, we learned about causes and treatments of different diseases from Tudor and Victorian periods in our topic 'How children's lives have changed'.
Over the next week, we will be learning:
Maths - The children will be working on solving word problems by adding and subtracting within 10 000 using different methods, previously learned.
Writing - We will be bringing our Power of Reading text "Escape from Pompeii" to a close by writing an alternative ending to the story.
History - We will work on our first piece of history disciplinary writing for the topic 'how children's lives have changed, over time'.
Science - In Science, we will be evaluating the link between animal diet and their position in the food chain.
