We've had another fun-packed two weeks. In English, we’ve been using our persuasive writing skills to create informative leaflets on Canva. Our topic? Camp Green Lake from our class novel, Holes! The challenge was to persuade new campers (or their parents) that Camp Green Lake is a wonderful place to send a child, despite what Stanley Yelnats might think! Our Art lessons took a practical turn as we started designing food packaging. This task connects to persuasive techniques we've discussed in English, as good packaging needs to be eye-catching and convince a consumer to buy the product. We looked at cereal packets and how we could improve the graphics, then had a go at revamping the designs ourselves. In science, we have been getting hands-on with energy, light and reflection. This week, we specifically investigated how shadows are made. We learned that shadows are formed when an opaque object blocks the path of light. We used torches and various objects to manipulate the size and shape of the shadows, proving that the distance between the light source, the object, and the surface all play a part. Finally, we enjoyed two workshops this week - one to celebrate Anti-bullying Week and its theme, "Power For Good." We discussed how everyone has the ability to make a positive difference and stand up against bullying, whether it's happening to them or to someone else. The second one from a company called "Game-changer" which focused specifically on the safety and well-being of Year 6 children as they venture towards high school and beyond.
The Year 6 Team.
