This past fortnight has seen Year 5 tackle some exciting challenges across the curriculum! In Maths, the children have masterfully multiplied by 10, 100, and 1000, understanding how place value shifts. They have also successfully navigated the processes of short and long multiplication and are now bravely embarking on short and long division—essential life skills! Our journey in English has taken us to the Arctic with our captivating new class novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. The children have immersed themselves in the story's setting, meticulously crafting detailed setting descriptions ready for their main piece of writing. This focus on real-world locations links perfectly with our new Geography topic, where we've zoomed in on the magnificent Alps. We've discovered their vast location and how they stretch across an impressive eight different countries! Finally, in DT the children turned into culinary critics, exploring various bolognese recipes and even getting to taste-test a couple—a truly delicious learning experience! Meanwhile, in Science, we have launched into our new unit exploring the fascinating 'Properties and Changes of Materials'. We are looking forward to some exciting experiments ahead!
