What a truly fantastic and busy start we have had to Autumn 2 in Reception! The children returned after the half-term break full of energy and enthusiasm. We began the term by diving into the magical world of 'Room on the Broom'. This was a wonderful opportunity to focus on phonological awareness, as we carefully identified the rhyming words in the book and even tried to create some of our own rhyming strings. In Maths, we continued our exploration of 2D shapes, playing an engaging game where the children described the properties of a shape to a partner, challenging them to guess what the shape was. We also learned an important new digital skill this fortnight: how to use the Chrome tablets to take photos of our friends, ensuring we always asked for permission first.
This week, we have been captivated by the story 'Mixed'. Our Drawing Club sessions saw the children create some lovely pictures inspired by the book and write their own secret codes to make magical things happen to their artwork. Everyone is trying hard to think about the word they want to write before they begin, focusing on writing the beginning sound that they can hear. We also had a great time exploring what happens when we mix different colours together, turning our new shades into characters from the story. In Maths, we have been busy comparing groups of objects to identify which group has 'more' and which has 'less'. We also learned about Remembrance Day and created lots of reflective poppy crafts. To top off the excitement, we have even started learning our Christmas songs, which we absolutely cannot wait to perform for our grown-ups in just a few short weeks!
