Year 6 have had a very busy time over the last couple of weeks! Just before half-term, they celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day and enjoyed an afternoon of sketching trees and plants outside. They have also been working hard on their writing and wrote a very moving, descriptive piece about a pile of abandoned shoes left after the Holocaust. The children enjoyed reading one another's descriptions and choosing their favourites. Last week, they began their new book, Can You See Me? By Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. It tells the story of Tally, an eleven-year-old girl who has autism and is just about to start high school. There has been a lot of discussion around her feelings and what triggers she might have. They looked at idioms and how every day phrases like this can cause a lot of stress to some people who have autism. Year 6 have also begun focusing on relationships in PSHE and the signs to look for with anxiety. They have realised how thoughts, feelings and actions are very much linked and all have a part to play. As well as this, in geography, they studied renewable and non-renewable energy and the benefits and drawbacks of different energy sources.
Somehow, they have fitted in Aladdin rehearsals too and are working so hard as a team to bring the show to life!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Project-based work
Writing - Creating their own Mr Men/Little Miss book for younger readers
Reading - Questions based on our new book, Can You See Me? By Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott
Science - Circuits, Batteries and Switches. We are planning an Electricity Day at some point this term.
