Year 5 have enjoyed a great couple of weeks! In English, we've been carrying on our class text, Treason. We're up to the bit where the main character, William, escapes the clutches of Hampton Court Palace and is on the run from Henry Eighth himself! In the filthy back streets of a Tudor village, he meets Nick and befriends him. We have been writing a setting comparison, comparing the lifestyles and situations of each. In other news, what a truly fantastic and jam-packed day Year 5 had on our recent trip to the magnificent Hever Castle! It was a day filled with historical discoveries and exhilarating fun! We absolutely loved exploring the stunning grounds and learning all about the castle's incredible past, including its famous resident, Anne Boleyn. This hands-on experience seeing drawbridges in action at Hever Castle sparked a brilliant new unit in our Design Technology lessons! We've been busy learning all about different types of bridges, and we've become particularly interested in truss bridges. Did you know that the triangular shapes within a truss bridge make it incredibly strong and able to support a lot of weight? We've been putting our engineering skills to the test by designing and building our very own miniature truss bridges in class. It's been amazing to see how much we can achieve when we work together and apply what we've learned about structural strength! But the learning didn't stop there! In geography, we've been fascinated by the incredible landscapes, unique animals, and extreme conditions found in deserts around the world. We've learned about how plants and animals adapt to survive in such hot and dry places.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Area and perimeter
Writing - Treason - A newspaper article reporting that William is on the run!
History - Deserts - Physical features
Science - Human timeline - Puberty
