What an incredibly busy and exciting start it has been to Summer 2 in Reception! Last week, we enthusiastically shared all the lovely things we did over the half term, focusing on writing our weekend news. We worked really hard to remember our full stops, capital letters, and finger spaces. In Maths, we concentrated on finding and recalling all the different ways of making 10, strengthening our number bonds. We also had a great time exploring the features of various maps and playing a fun game of pirate bingo. To prepare for designing and making boats later this half term, we have been busy testing which materials are waterproof and which ones float, sparking lots of scientific curiosity.
This week has been just as action-packed! We read the inspiring story 'Astro Girl' and discussed her dreams of becoming an astronaut when she grows up. Following the story, we independently wrote speech bubbles to accompany pictures from the book, showing off our creative writing skills. In Maths, we have been learning how to use a number line to help us solve subtraction calculations, a fantastic new strategy. We were incredibly excited to meet Marty the Robot and loved using coloured cards to create codes to make him move around the classroom. An additional excitement this week was the arrival of the visiting farm! We listened carefully to the farmer, learning about the different animals, and enjoyed stroking and brushing them. To top it all off, Pink and Lilac classes also enjoyed their first Forest School session. What a truly busy and productive fortnight it has been!
