What a busy and exciting few weeks we've had in Year 3! It's hard to believe we're already in the last few weeks of the summer term, but the children have been working incredibly hard and making fantastic progress.
In Maths, we've been exploring the fascinating world of angles! The children have become experts at identifying acute, obtuse, and right angles, and they can now confidently explain the difference between them. We also had a lot of fun understanding the measurements of a turn, learning about quarter, half, three-quarter, and full turns. Ask them to show you – they're brilliant at it!
Our adventures in Writing have taken us deep into the captivating story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The children have been completely enthralled by this classic tale. We particularly enjoyed stepping into the shoes of the seagulls and wrote some wonderfully imaginative recounts from their perspective, describing the dramatic moment when The Iron Man first fell down the cliff. Their empathy and descriptive language really shone through in these pieces.
Just before half term, we embarked on a wonderful trip to Kew Gardens! It was a truly enriching experience for everyone. The children were captivated by the sheer diversity of plant life and thoroughly enjoyed using microscopes to look at the wonderful world of plants up close. We also learned so much about different types of trees, including distinguishing between evergreen and deciduous varieties. It was a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and sparked many interesting questions.
As always, thank you for your continued support at home. It makes a real difference to the children's learning journey.
In the next term, we will be learning:
Maths - The children will be perimeter of figures
Writing - Our text is The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, and we will be writing a newspaper article.
Science - Our Science topic that we are looking at in the next half term will be "Making connections: Does hand span affect grip strength?"
