NEWSLETTER - 3rd November 2023

Harvest Festival

Thank you to everybody who donated to this year's Harvest Festival before half term.  We donated half of the items to a number of smaller local foodbanks and also received a certificate for the other half to show that our school community contributed to 185 meals for those in need.

School uniforms and the changing weather

With the deteriorating weather conditions, please can you ensure that children always have coats in school so that if the weather worsens throughout the school day they always have something to keep them warm/dry at playtime and lunchtime.  Can we also remind parents of the importance of labelling all items of clothing with your child's name so that we can return it in the event that it is misplaced.  Thank you.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

From Monday 6th November until Friday 10th November children will have the opportunity to purchase items to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Children across both sites will be bringing the items around to all classes throughout the week so if your child would like to purchase something, please ensure they have the correct change with them in school. Unfortunately, no change can be given so please ensure it is the correct amount or be prepared to make a larger donation if you don't have the correct change.

Poppies will be available for a suggested donation of 20p. Other items are priced; please see the image for details to allow your child to have the correct amount of money for what they would like to purchase.

Please also note that there is a limited supply of items so children may find that they are unable to buy what they wanted and may need to change their mind - please have a chat with your child about this so that they know this in advance.

Children in Need

BBC Children in Need is back this year on Friday 17th November 2023!

Children will be invited to wear mufti on this day to raise money for Children In Need. Children can wear spots, bright colours, anything Pudsey related or just normal mufti - it is up to them!

If you wish to make a donation (suggested donation £1) then please log onto Arbor and make this payment. Alternatively, please scan the QR code.

World Diabetes Day

To support World Diabetes Day on Tuesday 14th November, children are invited to wear something blue along with their school uniform, such as a blue hair band, t-shirt or socks.

To help raise awareness about Diabetes children will be a learning about the condition in class. If you would like to make a donation to Diabetes UK, of any amount, your child is welcome to pass this to their class teacher on the day.

Further information on World Diabetes Day can be found on the Diabetes UK website.

Allergies

Birthday Treats/Allergies

As you may be aware, we have a number of children in school who have a wide variety of allergies. Please can we ask that if you wish to bring in a birthday treat for your child's class that this is not food related. Some examples of birthday treats that are acceptable are pencils, books for the class, a small wet play game or bookmarks.

Thank you for your continued support with this.

On a similar note, please rememer that we are a nut free school and your child's packed lunch should reflect this.

Anti-Bullying Week

On Monday 13th November, we are inviting children to wear odd socks with their school uniform to symbolise that everyone is different.

During this week, the children will be having activities in assemblies and in the classroom. Children in year 2 and 6 will also be having a workshop.

Roads around School

Please can you remind your child to look carefully when they are crossing the roads around school, especially if they are walking to or from school alone.

Just a reminder that even though Kingston Avenue is part of the School Streets, cars can still drive down it and so children should still be careful when walking down it.

PedTech - The Impact

During this week's INSET Day, staff from school were at the annual LEO Conference where Dr Fiona Aubrey Smith present her findings from a year-long project about the use of technology in school.  Many of our teachers and students were involved along the way in this project.  If you would like to see her findings in more detail you can do so via this link.
