Year 6 have had a super couple of weeks! In English, we have been looking at ways to use adverbials, prepositions and determiners to up level our writing as we continue our class text, "Letters From The Lighthouse." In maths, we have enjoyed learning about perimeters and areas of composite shapes. We have also started practising using a protractor in preparation for our geometry topic. In science, we studied cold-blooded vertebrates and how to classify them. In art, we have been continuing our layering techniques, inspired by the artist, Mike Barrett. Using our self-portraits as a centre piece, we have been building up the background of our pictures using collage. In history, we are continuing our World War Two topic. This week, we have been finding out about being evacuated and what that might have felt like - both pros and cons. We acted out some freeze frames to show the body language and to portray the feelings of the evacuees. PE has been lots of fun too as we've begun our new unit - dance!
Finally, just before half term, we celebrated Mental Health Week by sharing each other's talents and attributes. We wrote positive messages to one another then had a lovely keepsake to take away. It was definitely an uplifting start to the holiday!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Geometry
Writing - Writing a persuasive letter from Letters From The Lighthouse
Reading - We will be looking at longer fiction texts
History - World War 2 - Evacuation Part 2
Science - Living Things - Warm-blooded vertebrates
