This week, we launched our annual Veg Power "Eat Them To Defeat Them" campaign which runs up until Easter.
This year’s theme is ‘The Big Chomp!’ to encourage children to chomp away and defeat those vegetables one bite at a time (and chomping on raw vegetables is great for dental health too)! Click here for more information.
The campaign focuses on: Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Courgettes, Peas, Peppers, Sweet Corn Tomatoes and Cucumber (but children seen eating any vegetables at lunchtimes will be rewarded). Click here to see this half term’s menu showing all the delicious ways vegetables will be on offer!
The children brought home sticker packs earlier this week to encourage them to eat more vegetables at home. At school, they will receive stickers when they are seen eating vegetables at lunchtimes (in packed lunches too) throughout the campaign.
Following the huge success of the Century Winter Cup, where Cheam Park Farm were consistently amongst the highest perfoming schools, we are looking forward to seeing how well the children do in the Spring Challenge, starting next week!
Looking after our own and our children's mental health and well being
As mental health week is approaching it is important that we start and continue to be mindful of the things that may trigger us and our children. Maintaining good mental health is a key part of feeling happy with life, being connected to other people and having a sense of meaning. It enables us to manage day to day stresses and work productively within society. Also, having resilience allows us to cope with challenges by using our inner strength and support networks by investing time and energy in our relationships with family and friends.
With that said it is important to have a toolkit at hand for whenever a situation arises.
Building your 'mental well-being toolkit'
Check in with yourself. “Have regular moments of quiet time.
Focus on the positive. What's going well in your life?
Practise non-judgmental awareness. (I know it's hard to believe, but even as parents we are not always right. Try to listen more)
Be kind to yourself.
Set boundaries when necessary. (It’s ok to say no when someone asks for you to do something)
Practise mindfulness.
Keep a (gratitude) journal.

On Friday every week we hold a Celebration Assembly where we award one child per class a 'Star of The Week' certificate. This is given to children who have impressed their teachers throughout the course of the week. We also give one child per class a 'Be The Best You Can Be' certificate for demonstrating our Excellent Learner values. Finally, we also award a 'Rights Respecting' certificate to one child per class for demonstrating behaviour and attitudes that reflect our Rights Respecting approach in school.
