Year 5 have had a very successful two weeks!
In English, we have continued with our book 'The London Eye Mystery'. The children have written some amazing diaries really considering the writing style the main character 'Ted' would adopt. We have also explored the features of a newspaper in preparation to write a newspaper report on Salim's disappearance. The children recorded some brilliant newsflashes explaining briefly the context of our article. See some of their fantastic writing below.
In maths, we have been exploring multiplication and division! The children have been learning a range of methods to solve questions surrounding these two operations. We encourage the children to continue developing these skills through the use of times table rock starsas this is such imperative knowledge to have. The children have also really developed their detail in answering challenges, really considering the thought process taken to answer questions.
This week, we continued our science topic 'Out of this world!'. The children explored the solar system in further detail and considered the importance of satellites in space. We have been able to see the distance between planets through an interactive website which helped us understand just how big space is! We have also looked into the history of the Moon Landing and the detail of work that happened prior to this success.
In DT, we have started our exciting journey of making Moon Buggies! The children have carefully considered the reason for moon buggies and what makes one effective. They have made a range of designs for their group and written out some steps to be successful in the creating stage. We cannot wait to see the finished products in a few weeks!
We also have our exciting trip to the London Eye! We cannot wait to explore in more detail how Salim's disappearance was possible and figure out if our theories were correct! Look out on twitter for some pictures of all the fun we get up to!
