Year 2 have had 2 very busy weeks of learning.
In Maths we have just finished the chapter of Addition and Subtraction. We have learned different methods to add and subtract and we have explored how to add three one-digit numbers by using facts we already know, like doubles and number bonds to 10. Maths can be really easy and fun once we know some basic number facts, so please help your child learn their number bonds to 10 and 20, doubles, and 2s, 5s and 10s times tables.
In our English lessons, we are exploring different texts about pirates. One of our favourites is 'The Pirates Next Door'. This week we have written the sequel to this book, making sure we have used expanded noun phrases to describe people, objects and settings. We continue to edit our work using a success criteria and a writing checklist.
In Humanities we have learned about the different types of boats that were used throughout the years. We have also learned about the different points in a compass and we located several places on a map by following directions. We had a wonderful time looking through our telescopes, searching for treasure in the playground.
In RE we were very lucky to have a visit from David Ruddick who told us all about the events leading up to Christmas. Next week we will have two different Christmas workshops at school when we will learn about Christingle, Advent and other Christmas events. More about this in our next newsletter.
Last week it was anti-bullying week and we all wore odd socks to show how we are against any form of bullying. We had an assembly and some activities in class, including thorough discussions in our PSHE lessons.
