Early Years Playground

We are delighted to inform you that the redevelopment of our Early Years Outside provision is going well, although it will not be ready to be opened until after half term.

For the final two weeks of this term 9/10/23-20/10/23 pick up and drop off for Early Years will remain the same as it has been since the building work began. Please see the details below on where your child should be collected.

Drop off for Nursery and Reception: (normal time drop off)

Location: School Hall door (signs will be displayed)

Parents/ Carers will drop off their children via the hall door. Please can parents/ carers form a line by their class sign and the teacher will sign them in accordingly. If your child is in Ruby or Jet (Reception) please see the signs that are to your right. Nursery parents are to line up to the left.

Nursery Morning collection (11.45am) and Afternoon drop off (12.15pm)

Please report to the school office where your child will be dismissed by Mrs Reddington at 11.45am and afternoon children collected at 12.15pm by Miss Hayward and taken through the school corridor to the Nursery classroom.

Pick up for Nursery and Reception

Collection of your child will be the same as drop off. Parents are to line up in a queue system by their class signs and wait for their child to be dismissed. This could take some time initially but please be patient.

Year 1

Drop off and Pick up for Year 1: Normal times for both drop off and pick up. Same location for drop off and pick up (Emerald classroom door and Jade classroom door) but the route to get to the classrooms has changed for this duration of time:

Year 1 parents are to enter via the school main playground gates and walk around the school building (by the Year 6 classrooms next to the PE field), around to the left of the school building past the forest school area, keep left and then you will reach the Year 1 classrooms. Please bear in mind that this is a narrow pathway so you will need to give way to others and be patient with this. There will be signs and members of staff to direct you along this route.

Harvest Festival

On behalf of the entire school community, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for your generous donations to our recent Harvest Festival. We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, and we are truly grateful for your willingness to help those in need.

Your donations will be used to support local food banks and charities, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to healthy and nutritious food. We know that many families are struggling to make ends meet, and your donations will make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Donations are being accepted until the 10th of October.

Please can we ask you to log into the Arbor app and click on your child's face (top left hand side of the screen), this will bring up their details. Please scroll down and check if the information is correct, if you need to make any changes this can be done via the app and will be automatically sent to the office admin team to approve.

Also, please can we ask you to check the parental consents for your child, if any of the consents are incorrect or you wish to add or amend anything please let us know, via email bfoffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk and we can make the necessary changes.

PTFA

Brookfield has an active PTFA who work with the school to arrange fundraising events to help raise money for our school and our students.

There is a PTFA Exec team who arrange these events and a wider PTA WhatsApp group where we liaise with class reps and keep you in the loop about events coming up. We would love to welcome some new parents to join this. If you would like to be part of the wider team, then please email us and we will add you.

We are still in need of organisers and supporters to help support the PTFA and our fundraising. Everything the PTFA does is to benefit our children and their school experience. Below are some of the ways you can help to  PTFA:

*Could you do a trip shopping and buy supplies for our events? (using our money, not your own)

*Can you help fill sweetie bags for us in the evenings in advance of events?

*Are you great on Instagram and Facebook and be willing to update our pages before and after our events?

*Are you creative and can make posters?

*Are you happy to offer your time and help to run events where needed?

All these little things make the PTFA successful and we really need you to help us! You aren’t expected to commit a certain number of hours or days - we just need to know you’re on hand!

Please see below a round up of some our our fundraising initiatives for the last academic year. With your help we'd love to raise as much money this year.

We have a few events lined up so expect to hear from us again once dates are confirmed, but if you’d like to join please come and speak to us - the more the merrier!

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Monday 9th - Thursday 12th October

The book fair will be selling a selection of wonderful books before and after school next week. You will find us on the main playground. We will take cash but would prefer payments using the QR codes which you can access on your mobile phone as long as you know your banking details. Sadly Apple Pay does not work.

The school receives commission money to purchase new books so please come and support our growing love of reading! This time last year we had our best sale to date... let's try and beat it!

LOVE OF READING!

Within our reading lessons, the children are sharing the books that they love and they favourite recommendations! Each class also has their own book that they are reading during their Read Aloud sessions, which has been chosen by the children themselves.

Here are some quality recommended books for all ages to enjoy with your loved ones! We'd love to hear about any new recommendations!

Brookfield's Child Book Swap!

We are in the process of setting up a children's book swap to continue their love of reading! Please click here to find out more :)

SING UP DAY DIGI CHOIR 2023

It is fantastic to hear that pupils from all over the world, including pupils from LEO, who took part in the Sing Up Day Digi Choir event! This event is a wonderful way to celebrate the power of music and singing, and to bring people together from all different backgrounds.

The Sing Up Day Digi Choir is a virtual choir that is created by compiling videos of people singing from all over the world. This year's Sing Up Day anthem was "Blossom out", a song by Tomuri Spicer that celebrates the earth and our connection to the natural world around us.

I am sure that the Sing Up Day Digi Choir event was a wonderful experience for all involved. It is a great opportunity for pupils to share their love of singing with others, and to learn about different cultures and traditions from around the world.

HELLO YELLOW / ITV GET BRITAIN TALKING

ITV Get Britain Talking

This World Mental Health Day, 10th October 2023, ITV’s Britain Get Talking and YoungMinds’ #HelloYellow are collaborating to help children across the country open up. Together with teachers and a clinical psychologist, we’ve created a piece of homework like no other. A conversation starter for children to take home, designed to help them talk about the hardest subjects on their minds with their parents or trusted adults. Because sharing worries can help ease stress and reduce anxiety.

A different kind of homework

Mental Health has declined in almost 40% of school children* and that’s why Britain Get Talking is setting the nation a different kind of homework, designed to help ease our stress and reduce our anxiety by asking what's on our minds. Have a chat tonight or take part in our national homework exercise this World Mental Health Day, 10th October. You don’t need a pen or paper, but if you’re unsure where to start, download our task and try writing or drawing your worries on the front cover. Find our more by clicking the link below.

PARKING

Please be considerate if you are driving to drop off/collect your child from school. Unfortunately a small number of people are parking dangerously and inconsiderately on Ridge Road, Beeches Road and the surrounding areas.

As we are an eco school, I would like to encourage parents and pupils to use more sustainable modes of travel to get to school where this is possible. I do understand that parents or carers will sometimes need to drive their children to school, however, I would urge where possible for parents/guardians to park away from the school and then walk in.

Please could you think of the safety of ALL our children and refrain from parking across residents driveways as this is an offence which could also result in a Penalty Charge Notice.

SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL OFFICER

Over the summer Sutton Council have been working hard to find a new School Crossing Patrol officer (lollipop person) for Brookfield. but unfortunately they still haven't found the right candidate. If you know someone who may be interested in this role please share this link with them SCP officer Brookfield School Sutton

SCHOOL FUND

We pride ourselves on offering our children varied and exciting experiences and activities that help to support their learning of the curriculum. The School Fund will allow us to provide additional activities across all year groups.

We have a voluntary school fund donation of £10 a term / £30 a year per child or £40 for a family if there are siblings at the school. Parents can pay for School Fund online via our Arbor payment system,  go to Accounts - School Fund - Top Up Account.

We would like to thank you for your support.

PUPIL PREMIUM FUNDING

Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.  This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free schools meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces.

We would like to remind all parents who are eligible, to apply for the Pupil Premium Grant.  This grant enables the school to provide additional support to our children where needed.  Examples of this are, access to extra-curricular clubs and additional support with specific areas of the curriculum.

Applying for this grant is very simple, it can be done online, for more information please see below:

Twitter and Facebook

Please follow @BrookfieldSM3 and @LEOacademies on Twitter and Facebook to be kept up-to-date with all of the exciting activities, learning and events that the children are participating in.

Twitter/Facebook are also the only form of communication shared by  the staff when the KS2 children are away on residential trips - seeing how much fun the children are having makes missing them not quite so bad, the children definitely do not look like they are missing home!

Please note that we only share photos of children who have photo permission and we only ever use their first name.  Also, we do not keep the photos that we share so if you see a photo of your child that you would like you can save these onto your own device by clicking on the 3 dots on the photo and selecting save.   Also if you see a post that interests you, please can we ask you to share/retweet.

If you would like your child to be included in our social media posts, please ensure that you have consented to social media.  If you are unsure please look at your child's profile on the Arbor app and contact the school office if you wish to make a change.
