Year 3 have smashed another 2 weeks this autumn term!
In maths, we have progressed with our topic of addition where we are renaming 3 digit numbers. The children have all been able to explain the steps to the method clearly and concisely whilst also being able to explain why they are doing each step. We will be progressing onto subtraction next week ... I think we have a year group of mathematicians on our hands!
In English, we have been focused on writing a diary entry in the eyes of the main character. The story follows a boy wanting to protect the elephants in a nature reserve in Africa by going on a hunt with poachers to trap them in the act. The children have shown good knowledge of needing to write in first person and past tense when creating a diary entry. Throughout their writing, they used a range of grammar techniques such as: first person pronoun, time conjunctions and using paragraphs for their structure.
Our art topic has enabled the children to explore drawing using the medium of charcoal. Although messy, the children were able to show good control of using the charcoal pencils through shading and smudging.
Finally, in geography, we have continued our study of Africa! We have been looking at the different countries that are within the continent of Africa whilst also exploring different features in Africa - both human and physical. All children were very confident in being able to explain what the difference is between a physical feature and a human feature - very impressive!
Children are expected to complete the following:
At least 5 reads in their reading diary each week
Centuary is now live! A piece of maths and English homework will be set every Thursday with a due date of the following Monday. The homework will appear at teh bottom under 'assignments'. The pathway at the top is suggested additional work that can be worked through as and when but is not an expectation to be completed.
Times table rock stars does not have to be completed daily, but it is encouraged to practise as much as possible.
Children are not expected to do Doodle and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)
Please note, the inside of the reading diaries have changed. There are dates on each page and a 'homework' section on the left hand side but please ignore these. Please see the image below of how to insert the reads into the new reading diaries.
