At Leigh on Mendip School, we believe that every child is unique, valued, and deserves to be celebrated. Through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum, we foster a school culture where all children feel included, respected and empowered to be their best selves.
Our Focus
Our PSHE and RSE provision is designed to:
Equip children with lifelong skills for wellbeing and success.
Celebrate each child's individuality and personal journey.
Encourage participation, self-expression and reflection.
Promote inclusion and a strong sense of belonging for all.
We follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme, which supports the development of the whole child and integrates personal, emotional, and social development across six key themes:
Identity and Self-Esteem
Equality and Diversity
Being Ambitious
Being Healthy
Good Relationships
Changing Me
These themes run through the school year and are accessible to all learners, with content adapted to be age-appropriate and inclusive.
Our PSHE curriculum also embeds the teaching of core British values:
Democracy
The Rule of Law
Individual Liberty
Mutual Respect and Tolerance of different faiths, beliefs and those with no faith
These values are taught explicitly and lived out through our school culture, helping children understand the importance of respect, fairness and shared responsibility.
