At our school, we believe that learning doesn’t just happen within four walls. Our commitment to outdoor education allows children to take their develop their skills further in a natural and stimulating environment that supports both their academic and personal development.
Wren Woods
One of our most valued outdoor learning spaces is Wren Woods – a purpose-created area located on the edge of Halecombe Quarry. This exceptional woodland resource offers pupils hands-on experiences in nature to encourage curiosity ad a deep connection with the environment.
Wren Woods is kindly maintained by Tarmac, whose continued support ensures that the area is safe and accessible. The space is used regularly for a wide range of outdoor learning activities including scientific observation, storytelling & art.
Outdoor Learning on School Grounds
In addition to Wren Woods, we are fortunate to have a variety of outdoor spaces right here on our school grounds, including:
A large school field – perfect for physical education, games, and outdoor group activities.
Our school pond – a wonderful resource for pond-dipping, wildlife observation, and exploring biodiversity up close.
These spaces are used throughout the year as part of our integrated curriculum, helping pupils to engage with nature and learn through experience. Whether it's measuring rainfall, exploring habitats or just enjoying a book under a tree, outdoor learning is a valued part of school life.
