At Leigh on Mendip, our Art and Design curriculum encourages all children to think creatively, explore their ideas and express themselves through a wide range of artistic media.
Our Art and Design curriculum covers the following key areas:
We teach key artistic skills including drawing, painting, printing, collage, and 3D sculpture, while encouraging children to develop their own creative voice. Children explore the work of both classic and contemporary artists and use sketchbooks to record ideas, experiment with materials and reflect on their progress.
Art is taught as a discrete subject, with meaningful links made to other areas of the curriculum where appropriate, enriching learning across subjects.
We use the Kapow Primary scheme to deliver our Art curriculum. This ensures a clear progression of skills and knowledge as pupils move through the school, building confidence and creativity over time.
