Families can help their students succeed by Providing a safe environment for students to be inquisitive and connected at home. Seek out resources and support if you have any questions, concerns or needs. Parenting an adolescent typically has its share of rewards and challenges and 2020 added a few extra challenges to this task. Patience and flexibility will be important.
I love my role as school social worker because I believe that all students deserve the support, skills and encouragement to work through, around and over the obstacles (ex. grief, relational difficulties, anxiety, unstable housing) that may come their way. I love being able to help students become aware of their strengths, overcome their areas of weakness, and gain confidence in their positive coping skills to become the best student they can be.
On a typical Saturday, you might find me reading a book, watching my teenage daughters in a soccer, softball game or swim meet, procrastinating cleaning my house/doing laundry.
