Media Composition and Cinematography students will further develop the fundamentals of media production, visual storytelling, filming, editing, and collaborative artistic development they previously explored in the Mass Communications Freshman Sampler course. Students master the identification, understanding, organization, and management of related media equipment and consider issues of ethics and safety related to the production and publication of publicly available media content. Course Description:
This course introduces students to the diversity of the Graphics Industry. Students gain exposure to the Adobe Creative Cloud with a concentration in Adobe Illustrator. They will explore the principles behind effective designs and look to apply these strategies as they develop designs to personalize various substrates. Students work with advanced technologies such as large format printers with integrated contour cutting, heat presses, and screen-printing equipment. Students must follow accepted safety practices and are expected to exhibit skill and craftsmanship as they produce products ranging from t-shirts to decals.

The Production Leadership and Professional Practices course aims to build on the foundations that were laid in the previous sequence of Mass Communications courses as students hone the skills outlined in the CTE Competency Task List. Specifically, students will be tasked with leading Mass Communications 2 and 3 students as they create various types of district and community content, thus challenging them to implement the technical, collaborative, interpersonal and organizational skills and dispositions required to engage in related career fields after graduation. This senior-level independent study/internship course requires students to work independently or in the leadership of small student teams to ideate, plan, develop, shoot, edit, and produce video, graphics, photography, livestreams, and other content in support of the school’s athletic programs. Students will work closely with the athletic director’s office and district coaches to plan for and respond to the marketing, event coverage, and branding needs of the district’s teams. Students are required to attend sports, meetings, and other events outside of the typical school day and to engage in professional and proactive communication with adult staff members.
