Junior Year Course
This course provides students with a foundational understanding of the various professional paths within the education sector. Students will explore essential topics such as professionalism, equity, and the diverse roles that educators play in shaping learning environments. Through discussions and activities, learners will gain insights into the importance of fostering inclusive practices and the impact of educational equity on student success. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to consider their own career aspirations within the field of education.
Junior Year Course
This course focuses on the essential elements of classroom culture and structure. Students will explore intentional teaching practices, and how to foster an inclusive environment where all learners feel valued. Students will learn to design engaging assessments and thoughtful classroom setups. Students will also gain a better understanding or behavior management techniques and strategies to enhance student engagement. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to create a positive learning atmosphere that supports diverse educational needs.
Junior Year Course
This course offers students an introduction to the fundamental principles of teaching, focusing on effective planning and collaboration with peers. Students will learn to set clear learning goals and explore essential concepts such as backwards planning and lesson design. Through interactive activities, students will develop their public speaking skills, preparing them to engage with students in both small group and whole-class settings.
Senior Year
In this course, students will examine how education policy influences school environments and explore the roles of governing bodies, such as school boards, in shaping local education policies within their districts. Emphasizing the importance of experience and reflection, students will analyze their own teaching practices, make necessary adjustments, and seek innovative strategies from research-backed initiatives and mentorship. Students will learn to reflect on their instructional approaches, and enhance their skills as future educators.
Senior Year
This course prepares future educators to effectively support diverse learners in the classroom. Students will explore crucial topics such as addressing the needs of students facing trauma and adapting teaching strategies for varying academic levels. By examining the factors that impact student academics and mental health, participants will gain insight into creating inclusive and supportive learning environments. Through practical applications in student placements, this course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to foster success for all learners.
Senior Year
The Practicum in Education course provides a continued hands-on experience in the field of education through internships and clinical placements. Throughout the course, students will apply their knowledge of instructional strategies, behavior management, and lesson planning in real classroom settings. This immersive experience will help students develop the skills necessary for effective teaching and foster a deeper understanding of best practices in education. By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to pursue a career in teaching and make a positive impact on future generations.
