To develop our students’ competencies in literacy, numeracy, technology and leadership through a nurturing academically challenging learning environment.
Learning Circle follows the curriculum mandated by the Department of Education.
Equal emphasis is given on fluency in communicating in Filipino and in English.
Our curricular programs include opportunities for exploring and understanding concepts through hands-on activities and actual experiences.
Leadership Curriculum
Kindness Curriculum
Learning Circle uses Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People as the framework for our leadership program. Through our values education, direct instruction and modeling, children develop a sense of leadership that is firmly rooted on time honored principles. The goal is for every child to become a leader of self and a leader of others.
Teaching the Learning Circle Way is based on principles of brain-based learning, developmentally appropriate practice (DAP), The Four Pronged Approach for teaching reading, positive discipline, and the philosophy of constructivism.
Brain-based Learning
Brain-based learning refers to teaching methods, lesson designs, and school programs that are based on the latest scientific research about how the brain learns. This approach to teaching puts an emphasis on factors influencing cognitive development—how students learn differently as they age, grow, and mature socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
Developmentally Appropriate Practice
Developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is an approach to teaching grounded in the research on how young children develop and learn and in what is known about effective early education. Its framework is designed to promote young children's optimal learning and development.
At Learning Circle, we plan activities that are age- appropriate for our preschool students. “Circle Time” may sound simple but it integrate several effective strategies, such as the use of music and movement, poems, flash cards, and conversation.
The Four-Pronged Approach
The Four Pronged Approach is an approach to teaching beginning reading developed at the University of the Philippines. Using the Four Pronged Approach, students develop
a genuine love for reading
a good sense of the grammatical structures of both English and Filipino languages
a rich vocabulary
word attack and reading skills
writing skills
At Learning Circle, we believe that reading is a major factor in school success and so we support our students’ reading development.
Literature-Based Reading Program
From Preschool to Grade 6, Learning Circle uses award-winning children’s literature to support learning to read (Preschool to Grade 2) and reading to learn (Grades 3 – 6.)
Learning Circle teachers believe that the best way to develop a life-long love for reading is to expose children to a variety of well-selected children’s literature. Through good literature, children are exposed to authentic language or language used as they are spoken. Unlike in the usual textbooks where language is very much controlled, good literature is full of vivid descriptions and authentic expressions.
Experiential Learning
Learning is more meaningful when children are given opportunities for hands-on experience. Teachers plan for interactive lessons that encourage students to explore, create or perform. We also plan for field trips and other opportunities to expand our students' view of the world.
Positive Discipline
Positive Discipline is a program designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities. The program aims to teach important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults (including parents, teachers, childcare providers, youth workers, and others).
