Steps to research
For this project you are to design a piece of jewelry for your artist to wear to a gala. Your piece must be inspired by your artist. It is important, therefore that you research what your artist's influences and interests were. You will need to gather information on the following:
- Your artist's life:
- biographical information
- Events/movements were occurring that may have impacted your artist
- Your artist's style:
- the art movement/period of your artist
- key pieces that represent your artist's work
- characteristics of your artist's style

The second part of the project is to create a documentary of your process. For this, you will need to keep very good notes about each step of the process.
Create a folder in your Google Drive for the project. As you find pictures of your artist, her work, or iconic images related to her timeline, add them to the folder. Also add the articles you locate.
For your notes, either use the note cards in NoodleTools or start a Google document. It is very important to document your sources as you are taking your notes.

Search:
- The name of your artist as a keyword. It is very likely we don't have a full book on the person.
- Women artists as a subject.
- Look at the general art books (700). In the index, look for the name of your artist.
Repeat steps 1-3 for the art movement/period she identified with
- Scan/photocopy pieces you want to reference later

The encyclopedias provide short biographies and articles about various art movements.
Once you know the dates for your artist, World Book Timelines will list important world events that occurred during that period.
EBSCO Discovery will search all the databases the school has at one time. You will get a lot of results so think about your search terms carefully. Remember to put quotation marks around terms you want to search as a phrase. For example "abstract art" "frida kahlo"

The information in Clara® is drawn from the materials in National Museum of Women in the Arts' extensive Archives on Women Artists.
