Please remember that many of our databases are periodical databases. A periodical database provides access to the articles in a magazine/periodical. Often the images and advertisements are not included. For an overview of periodicals, magazines, and journals, click "the basics" link below.
You may borrow magazines using the same process as borrowing books. Choose the magazine through Destiny and put a hold on it. Alternately, we can add you to the routing list. If you are interested in reading the magazine monthly, fill out the Routing List form and we will deliver the copy to you when it arrives in the library.
St. John's-Ravenscourt has thousands of periodicals available through various databases. All these periodicals can be accessed through searching the databases. It is important to note, however, that the articles are available, not the entire periodical with images, advertisements, and table of contents. You can search within a specific journal for content, but you cannot flip through the journal as you would with a physical magazine. Many of our databases are periodical databases. A periodical database provides access to the articles in a magazine/periodical. Often the images and advertisements are not included.
A digital periodical or e-magazine/newspaper, provides the full edition/volume in a digital form. So, like an ebook, you may "flip" through the pages using an online reader. Like all the databases, you may download and share pages, articles, or the full magazine as needed.
Some definitions:
A periodical is a magazine, journal, or newspaper published at regular intervals. So, all magazines, journals, and newspapers are periodicals.
A magazine is a "periodical publication containing articles and illustrations, typically covering a particular subject or area of interest." (Oxford Dictionary) Magazines are intended for the general public. Examples of magazines include Time, Sports Illustrated, and Rolling Stones.

Flipster is an EBSCO service that provides digital periodicals. We currently have 8 digital magazines through Flipster.
You can access Flipster and read any of the magazines on any browser using the school username and password.
You can also access Flipster through an app on your mobile device. But, you will need to create a personal EBSCO username and password.
To access the Flipster app:
Locate the Flipster app through the App store (Android, or Apple)
Click "Get started"
Type in: St. John's-Ravenscourt School.
Click "Log in" by the school name
Sign in with your username and password (remember, you need to create a personal EBSCO account to use the app)
