Our central idea for this term is 'A work of art can be the product of a complex process.'
Using the Key Concepts of Form, Connection and Perspective, the lines of inquiry we will explore are:
What the different types of art are, and what different techniques there are to create art
How different artists work together and connect their ideas
Why people have different opinions about artwork
In art, Year 6 have been looking at how to draw using perspective. This is quite a difficult process, as it requires children to use horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines to give the illusion that an image is three dimensional. They tried out 1 point and 2 point perspective and showed great perseverance, even when finding the task challenging. Here are some fantastic examples!
In English, Year 6 have been analysing different styles of artwork. They have been describing the form of different pieces of art, and offering their opinion on them. These photos and paintings of our former Queen display a range of styles and are all unique in their own way. The children did an excellent job of formally analysing these images.
In science, Year 6 have been learning all about how light travels in straight lines. They investigated how when a torch is held at different distances, the size of the shadow varies and created graphs to show the results of their shadow investigation using Google sheets. Year 6 have also looked at opaque, translucent and transparent materials, and how shadows vary depending on which of these objects are used.
On Friday 7th October, we had an amazing day celebrating Times Tables Rock Star Day! Year 6 worked hard on their times tables all day, and really impressed us with their fantastic costumes! Well done to Cedar for winning the Key Stage 2 TTRS competition, and well done to our most valued players: Jack, Benji, Joshua, Harry, Filip and Gian.
