This term we have continued with the previous term’s line of inquiry about how the relationship we make help shape our lives. We discussed special events within our family including Diwali and birthdays and then moved on to communities. We spoke about how we are part of our class community as well as the school community. We visited the junior site to see how it is the same and different to our site, even though we are one school and one community.
We then looked at other communities we might be members of outside of school, including churches, swimming club and football club. We shared which clubs we currently belong to and which clubs we would like to join.
Finally, we found out more about people who help us in our community. We remembered that we dial 999 in case of an emergency to get help from the police, fire service or ambulance. We also learnt more about dentists and opticians and created a mind map about other people in the community who help us.
We performed the story of the nativity to our parents and enjoyed singing songs including Little Donkey, Twinkling Stars and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The children enjoyed seeing their parents and they did a great job at saying their lines so loudly and clearly!
