Dear DPA families,
This term has once again seen some incredible work from our children at Dartford Primary Academy and we are very proud of them! We’ve continued to focus most specifically on improving writing across the academy as this is the area that has been impacted most by the school closures. In reception the children have written their own 999 posters as they’ve started to use their phonics to write words. In year one we have seen some unbelievable writing as the children have retold an alternative version of ‘The Princess and the Pea’ and then adapted the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. It has been a pleasure to read their work and see the effort they’ve put in. In year two, the children have written diary entries about the Great Fire of London and newspapers about the Great Chicago Fire. The knowledge they have gained is phenomenal!
In year three, we have travelled through history from the Stone Age to the Iron age. Miss Roberts and Mr Mitchell were lucky enough to be invited to Lesnes Abbey Woods where we made axes and dug for fossils. We were very proud of all our pupils' behaviour and a great day was had by all. The year 4 curriculum has been driven through Ancient Romans. Their fantastic writing has been inspired through immersing themselves as Romans, creating shields and swords to take into battle. Year 5 have loved their topic on space. The learning journey display in each year 5 classroom has lit up the sky and wowed incoming visitors to the room. It has been amazing to see pupils take agency in their work through the way in which they have researched and delivered their final pieces of writing.
The standard of written work seems to surpass my expectations each term in year 6 and this term is no different. The pupils have been enthralled through the story of When the Sky Falls and the central idea that ‘Wars can have detrimental consequences’. I am very much looking forward to their end of term speeches on why we should not have future wars. Not only will they draw on their excellent knowledge, but also show off some of their reading performance skills they learnt when famous poet Harry Baker visited the school.
We hope that you all have a safe and special Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in January 2022.
Mrs Haywood and Mr Mitchell
