See below.
Objective
Students will explore a variety of fitness options through in studio classes, personal training and receive expert nutrition tips to maximize the benefits of a fit lifestyle. Students will push their personal limits as the week will be physically and mentally intense.
Description
During “Fierce about Fitness” students will explore a variety of fitness classes in studios throughout Lincoln Park and Old Town such as Core Power Yoga, Club Pilates, Shred 415, Orange Theory, and Fit Body Boot Camp. Additionally, students will work with personal trainers from CrossFit and Emergence. Each person will have the opportunity to reflect on the “I can’t do it” mentality and celebrate their successes as well as where they have room to improve. They will participate in at least two group fitness classes per day and will have time to work with trainers on form and technique throughout the week. Students will also work with nutritionists and learn the essentials of proper nutrition no matter your fitness level and how food, not supplements, is fuel.
Student Requirements and Expectations
During our meetings leading up to Project Week, students will pair up to begin considering and researching a fitness or nutrition topic of interest (ie. correlation between fitness and mental health, trends in fitness, sports injuries, diet and supplement fads). They will continue this research during Project Week and, as a final experience, students will share video presentations illustrating how their topic could be helpful to all community members.

Special Considerations
Expectation for physical activity - This project will require a significant amount of physical exertion and possibly some physical discomfort. Students on this project should be willing to deal with discomfort, at times, in inclement weather. Students are expected to be able to participate fully in all daily activities.
Food limitations and allergies - Students with food allergies and food sensitivities should understand that there may be times that food options will be limited. In addition, there may be cross contamination risk of allergens, as there will be times where outside food vendors will prepare our meals. Please contact the project leaders or the school nurses with any questions or concerns.
