Year 6

Term 5 has been slit across two central ideas. The was to keep consistency for the children before SATs, we did this by carrying on from our Term 4 inquiry :

Events influence people's perspectives and views

1. An inquiry into the interconnectedness of local and global perspectives. The impact of events from the local and global scale.

For the first three week of Term 5, the children explored a wide variety of sources relating to the outbreak of Word War 2. After researching and taking information down from different sources, the children created some wonderful newspaper reports outling the different perspectives on the outbreak of the war.

After finish the SATs the children then moved onto the following central idea, which they will continue in Term 6 :

Popular culture impacts expression

1. An inquiry into  popular literature through time.

2. An inquiry into popular media through time.

3. An inquiry into the impact of current movements on myself and the wider world.

To start off lookig at popular culture through time, the children read the story of Frankenstein and Mary Shelley. The question is, who is the real monster?

Whilst reading the text, the children developed their own character and setting descriptions and magpied language from our smaller key reading texts based on 'fear'. Using all these elements, the children have now written their own version of Frankenstein.

We have focussed on the different shading skills, which they applied to their chosen characters and setting drawings:
