Year 1

Inquiry:

People express their uniqueness through art.

1. An inquiry into significant artists of the past and present.

2. An inquiry into expressing ourselves through art.

3. An inquiry into how we can use artwork to inspire our poetry writing.

What is colour?

What is pink? A pig is pink

It causes a great, big stink.

What is red? A strawberry is red

It grows in a flower bed.

What is green? A grasshopper is green

It jumps up to be seen.

What is white? A polar bear is white

It might come out at night.

What is blue? A blueberry is blue

It is easy to chew.

Enterprise Class created a poem in the styles of  Christina Rossetti's poem 'What is Pink?'

Great collaboration!

Exploring different ways to express ourselves

Reading Rainbow:

Here are the texts that the children have read during this inquiry.  Each book was chosen to support the children's understanding of 'Expressing Yourself'.

Maths:

Capaacity

The children enjoyed being outside when learning about capacity.  They were given the challenge to fill different containers to half full and full.  This lead them to making predictions of how many cups would fill each container.

Weight

The children explored the weight of everyday objects around the class.  They made connections with previous maths learning when identifying of the objects were equal to, more than or less than.

Phonics:

This term, Year 1 has been recapping the trickier sounds in preparation for the Phonics Screening test which will take place in term 6.  Please continue to support your child to read daily as this further supports their fluency and decoding skills.
