Year 5

What a busy last term for Year 5! We started with two online workshops run by the UK Parliament. First we learned all about the House of Commons and the House of Lords. We also found out that the House of Commons is more powerful than the house of Lords because they are elected representatives of the people. For our second workshop, we participated in a debate about a new law we would create if we were in charge. Melrose decided to create a law to protect the homeless, which linked with our learning in our first inquiry in Term 1!

We found out how the monarchy lost power in the past and the role of the Royal Family now. We started receiving responses to our letters to the working Royal Family.

We discussed the events that took place that caused the beginning of World War I. We played a game like 'Risk' to understand the effect of alliances.

We had a great time during sports day and our teamwork was fantastic!

We created photoshopped images of our own models in their natural habitats using our time in Forest School as inspiration.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and carers for their support this year. The children have worked hard and we are very proud of them all. We wish them every success in Year 6.

Have a wonderful, restful summer.
