Year 3

Term 6: By learning about those that came before us, we can better understand our lives today

The Stone Age

Near the beginning of term we learnt all about the Stone Age. We looked at their lifestyle using a book called Stone Age Boy. We designed a stone age outfit, looked at the tools they used and what they did for fun. We built shelters in the forest school and used charcoal to create our own cave drawings. We looked at their diet and using foods available during the Stone Age we made our own Stone Age Stew. Some of us really enjoyed this, however, some of us thought this was disgusting!

Ancient Egypt

To open our minds to the world of Ancient Egyptians we all took part in an Ancient Egyptian workshop. We were emerged into a story about discovery, pharaohs and Gods. We investigated why the river was and still is so important to the Egyptians. We completed our own research and wrote a report on our findings. We looked at how they transported water and made a Shaduf. We then used tubs of water to see how this worked. When exploring the Ancient Egyptians we learnt a lot about the afterlife and their traditions. This led us to mummification, we explored the steps on how people were mummified and applied this learning to mummifying a tomato. I hope you still have these at home. We then learnt about the afterlife and chose how to present this in a story, through using google docs, google slides or making our own comic book. To show our understanding of all the different time periods we have made our own mini worlds that show how time has changed from the Stone Age to today.

Experiences this Term

This term has been full of adventures. We all took part in a successful sports day, with the class really working well as a team. We went on a trip to Cobtree Manor Park, explored the area and some of us found dens. We were able to apply our knowledge of sketching when drawing the lion statue and visited the play park. Mrs Davies even went down the slide! We showed how respectful we all can be. We had a visit from Zara to talk about racism, spoke about how things need to change and how judging people is not a nice thing to do. We were all concerned about how people are treated differently and questioned why?
