Nursery

Well done Seedlings on a super term!

The children have been busy applying their learning in their play in a range of fantastic ways.

Here is a little summary of what we have been up to.

Central Idea: We all have a role to play in our community.

Lines of Inquiry:

1) An inquiry into the changes of seasons.

2) An inquiry into roles in our community.

3) An inquiry into my role for caring for our community.

4) An inquiry into how celebrations bring our community together.

This term within the nursery we have explored the different roles that there are in our community. The children thought initially about the roles within our nursery and families, and then they started to think about the roles of other people in our community, such as the police officers, farmers and builders. The children then moved onto thinking about the role of dentists and caring for our teeth. As part of our learning on oral health the children shared experiences they have had about visiting the dentist as well as using words associated with the dentist. They also investigated how we have a responsibility to care for our world, talking about recycling and litter picking on the school field. During the latter part of the term we looked at the Christmas story and spoke about special times that the children have shared with their families.

Here are the texts that we have been using in nursery this term. The children have also really enjoyed listening to rhyming books, spotting when words rhyme and when they don't.

The children have also created their own version of the famous 'That's Not my...' book. Click the Christmas Jumper above to see their book.

In Module Three we will be introducing home reading bags for the children, to support their love of reading at home and to support their readiness for starting big school, more details to follow after Christmas.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to welcoming you back in January, where we will also welcome our new children to the nursery.
