Year 6

This term has been a wonderful start to the year. Year 6 pupils have worked extremely hard, starting their Year 6 journey off by looking at the journey that Charles Darwin took in 1831. We looked at the animals and plants that he discovered, and we used them to discuss the 'Theory of Evolution'. We looked at our own characteristic and genes as well as characteristics of animals and how they live in specific environments.

This then led us on to write our very own Just So Story in the style of Rudyard Kipling.

Sticking with the Victorian theme, we learned about Victorian Crime and Punishment and compared it to our punishment systems nowadays. The children wrote great diary entries in the role of convicts from the Victorian times.

We have also researched and learned about Women's Rights throughout history, looking at how things have changed for the better. We even had a debate about who had it harder in life: a 19 year old woman born into a wealthy family in 1428 compared to a 19 year old woman born into a poor family in 1428. The children found it interesting looking at how unfair it was for women in those times.
