Central Idea: Humans make sense of the world by being connected.
Line of Inquiry 1: 'An inquiry into what makes up our identity'
We have been learning all about the features of their own identity. We started off looking at the features of our faces. Using the mirrors, we were able to see what hair and eye colours we have. We found out we have either blonde, brown or black hair and either green, brown or blue eyes. We moved onto discussing what we like or dislike. After collecting all of our information, we made our very own fact files. As part of our Forest School Sessions, we created our own self portraits using natural resources. As part of our Inquiry sessions, we have been focusing on the techniques that the artist Julian Opie uses in his portrait work and we created our own self portraits reflecting his style.
Line of Inquiry 2: 'An inquiry into who and where is important to me'
First, we spoke about who is important to us. We discussed why our families and our friends are important and how they help us. We have also been on our very first school trip in Year 1! We used our senses when walking around the local area of Langley Park. We visited both the Nature Reserve and Costa and even walked past some of our houses! We were very excited, Willow joined us too!
Line of Inquiry 3: 'An inquiry into using our senses to understand the world around us'
We have had a visit from Paul and he brought along his guide dog Pasha. He told us all about how Pasha helps him in his day to day life including how Pasha will move people out of the way to be able to allow Paul to reach the button when crossing the road. Some of our learning has been focused on the book 'Little Red Riding Hood' and we linked what we knew about our senses to the story. Using our knowledge of her, we wrote our own character descriptions and rewrote Little Red Riding Hood's journey as if we were her.
What our learning looks like in Enterprise Class:
We made our very own boats during Skills week. We used junk materials to build them. All of our boats were able to float!
We brought in our own toys to show what is important to us. We enjoyed sharing these with the class.
We have been showing our knowledge of numbers to 10 using part part whole models. We have used this knowledge to be able to add numbers together.
We re-created Granny's house using recycled materials and our grown ups came to help! We are very proud of our work.
What our learning looks like in Jubilee Class:
Here is our Unit of Inquiry display board! It showcases all of our amazing work this term! Now it has been moved to the corridor so we have space for more of our wonderful work to be displayed next term.
We enjoyed making plans of Granny's house in the story 'Little Red Riding Hood'. As part of our mini exhibitions we constructed our design with our grown ups. Everyone enjoyed getting involved in the making process.
We had a visit from a paramedic. We even got to try on some of his uniform and we asked him lots of questions about his role in the community.
It has been our first term recording our work in our special books in class. We enjoyed writing as if we were Little Red Riding Hood and used our knowledge about our senses to write about what we could see, hear, smell and touch in the woods on the way to Granny's house.
