Our first line of inquiry was focused around rules and laws of the U.K. The children identified rules that they have to follow such as in school, home and clubs/sports they play. They then researched where and how laws are made and the role of parliament in the law making process. The Children then wrote non-chronological reports about the Houses of Parliament following a virtual tour they took part in.
During this line of inquiry we considered the choices we make and the consequences of these focusing on both positive and negative. The children thought about the choices they had to make on a daily basis and considered choices that adults have to make. The children looked at how they make decisions and the type of decision maker they are. They explored external and internal influences that affect decision making.
The children wrote a narrative story based around this term's book 'Danny and the Champion of the World', where Danny had to make certain choices to help his father.
During this line, we began to look at how parliament has changed over time from Anglo-Saxon England until the present day. We have looked at how decisions/laws were made during Anglo-Saxon England, making links with our Term 1 inquiry. We researched and considered the importance of the Magna Carta and the impact it had on forming today's parliament. We then learnt about a significant turning point with the English Civil war and how this has had a lasting change with a shift of power of monarchy to parliament.
