To start our learning journey this term, our first lines of Inquiry were 'An Inquiry into how the UK is organised' and 'An inquiry into the characteristics of different cities within the UK.' Within these lines of Inquiry, we learnt about cities, towns and villages. We learnt about the different properties of these and then used our research skills when plotting the landmarks of London on maps. We used the text 'Katie in London' to inform our writing opportunities and even changed the story from 'Katie in London' to 'Our name in Maidstone' and we wrote about Iggy the dinosaur and the landmarks he took us too.
Finally, we learnt about how communities are different and we found out about special places of worship within the UK. We also learnt about what Christmas traditions mean to different cultures, we researched the importance of the Christmas Yule Log and we even wrote instructions to make our very own. We enjoyed eating the Yule Logs we made at our Christmas party! We came together as a KS1 community to perform the play 'The Fleece Force.'
