This term, Year 6 have been exploring our line of inquiry using World War II as its vessel. To start the term, the children have looked at the causes of World War II and two clear cut sides that formed. Their first piece of creative writing this term took inspiration from an animation of the Blitz. They discussed and devised a creative piece of writing that described that devastation that took place during that time.
For their second piece of writing, Year 6 took a trip the the Battle of Britain Memorial in Folkestone, where the children learned about the effects and causes of the Battle of Britain. They then proceeded to write a report about the key facts of the Battle of Britain.
To finish the term off, the children then designed a website in order to sell a Spitfire EN179. Their inspiration was taken from a company wanting to sell the parts of a Spitfire that was used during World War II. The hope is that the company selling the Spitfire will use a website that one of our children created.
This term, the children have spent time exploring and learning about fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as being introduced to algebra.
These strands are an integral part of the Year 6 maths curriculum and we are extremely proud of them all for working so hard on a challenging topic.
The children have been loving our class book this term.
Please ask them about it!
The children had the opportunity to have a tour around the memorial, learning all about the aircraft and also the brave 'few'. They also were able to use a Hawker Hurricane simulator and try on World War II uniforms whilst they were there.
