Central Idea: 'Living Things Play An Important Part In Our World'
Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry Into Different Living Things In Our World.
During our first line of inquiry the children explored what made something a living thing. They learnt that living things need air, food and water to enable them to grow.
The children then explored the story of 'Farmyard Hullabaloo' and learnt about the names of different Mother's and their young, describing how they were similar and different to other animals.
The children created their own pictogram to illustrate the favourite farm animals within the nursery, talking about what the pictogram showed them.
Line of Inquiry 2: An Inquiry Into the role living things have in our world.
During this line of inquiry the children explored the life cycles of frogs, caterpillars and chicks. The children observed the changes that happen when these animals grow, sequencing the life cycles and using scientific words to talk about what they could see happening.
They enjoyed counting the butterflies breaking out of their chrysalis, cuddling and caring for the growing chicks and observing the frogspawn in the forest school pond.
Line of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry Into the role living things have in our world.
During this line of inquiry the children explored the role they have in caring for living things, whether it be the chicks or growing their own cress.
The children also explored the parts of living plants, sorting them into "plants" and "not plants" as well as talking about the features of plants.
The children worked extremely hard to develop care for the chicks and to water the cress, observing the changes that happened as they did so. Well done Seedlings on a super term!
