In this line of inquiry, the children were learning about the different types of habitats of minibeasts. We used the text 'Mad About Minibeasts' to learn the different habitats minibeasts live in and where we can find them. For example; if you pick up a rock or a log you would find a selection of minibeasts, such as woodlouses, spiders and worms.
The children were fortunate enough to visit Tyland Barn. Here they got to experience pond dipping and explore the surrounding areas by going on a minibeast hunt. Allowing us to identify all the different minibeasts in their habitat.
The children have also enjoyed exploring the different areas of reception and learning new routines and expectations. They have also been developing their independent skills by having a go at doing things for themselves even though it is tricky at times.
During this line of inquiry, the reception children were learning about the life cycle of animals. The texts we used for this inquiry were, 'Where do Chickens come from?', 'The Bad Tempered Ladybird', 'Little Bee' and 'One Little Chick'. We researched the life cycles of all of these animals. Along the way, we learnt some interesting facts about them and used them in our writing.
To support this learning we have caterpillars within the classrooms to observe their life cycles. We also had "living eggs", where we were lucky enough to watch the chicks hatch, start to grow and take care of them.
In this line of inquiry we looked at ways we can care for our planet and support the world we live in. The text we used for this inquiry was 'The Snail and the Whale'.
We participated in the school litter picking to support World Earth Day. This helped us to understand the importance of keeping our school environment clean and safe and the wildlife in our community.
We have been using our learner attributes of caring, communicating and knowledge throughout this terms learning to help grow our brains and share our learning with our peers.
We are starting the term with World Art Day. Our focus for this is plastics and the artist Kandinsky. Where we will be recreating Kandinsky's work (flowers), by using 'plastic'.
We also have our school trip to Chatham Dockyard, where we will be participating in a 'Pirates Ahoy!' workshop and learning how rope is made and exploring the dockyard.
We hope you all have a great Easter break and we look forward to welcoming back the children on Tuesday 22nd April for Term 5.
