- Understand the concept of chemistry being a prerequisite for many other subjects in higher education, such as medicine and biological and environmental sciences
- Provide opportunities for scientific study and creativity
- Challenge and raise awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic and environmental implications of using science and technology
- Practice the key focus to engender an awareness of the need for and the value of effective collaboration and communication during scientific activities
