¡Bienvenidos a Exploración de Español! (Welcome to Spanish Exploration!) I started my career teaching middle school Spanish in the Washington, D.C. Metro area 24 years ago. I returned home to Arizona in 2016 and joined the Kyrene School District where I've taught all levels of Spanish. My three sons benefit from the amazing Dual Language program in both the elementary school and here at K.M.S. Language-learning and second language acquisition are my passions and I love being a part of our students' language journey!
We live in such a large & beautiful world with a myriad of different people, diverse languages & cultures that I thoroughly enjoy the study, teaching & experience of them all! My Spanish fluency developed through those experiences. I spent three years in Central America serving in the Peace Corp and have facilitated student expeditions in Honduras, Puerto Rico & Peru. In & out of the classroom, I strive to challenge students to deepen their understanding & appreciation of other cultures through language learning.
¡Hola! I’m Wendy Carrillo, an Arizona native and a native Spanish speaker. I graduated from Grand Canyon University and am working toward becoming a polyglot. I love traveling the world and hope to inspire my students to explore it as well. Sharing my passion for language lets me make learning fun while encouraging students to be curious about the world around them.
I was born in Mexico but grew up in Arizona. I have been living in Arizona for 24 years. I graduated from ASU with a bachelor’s in Secondary Education, specializing in Spanish. I then graduated with a Master's in Spanish Literature. I have been teaching for 15 years, mostly in Arizona, but I taught in Nicaragua for 2 years. In 2022, I was named Arizona Language Teacher of the Year.
