1 Year Course

In band we will build on student’s musical skills, and develop new technique. Students will learn rehearsal techniques, proper posture, rhythmic accuracy, increased awareness of intonation, music reading comprehension, controlled tone production, and stylistic articulation. In addition, band reinforces mathematics, social studies, science, history, reading and listening skills. To create great music requires teamwork and collaboration from each and every student.

In band class, students will learn to play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students will be able to perform on that instrument at various functions. They will learn any supplemental material required to develop and demonstrate good instrumental playing skills, including how to take care of their instrument, how to read music and other music theory, and other necessary information. By the end of this class, students should be prepared to continue playing music in an ensemble, if they so choose, whether at the middle school level, high school level, or beyond.
