Mandarin Chinese from Phase 1 to Phase 3 (Mandarin Expo, Mandarin 1 & Mandarin 2) is a three-year introductory course designed for 6^th,7^th and 8^th grade middle school students in non-Chinese environments.

In this course they will also learn the foundations needed to study Chinese, including pinyin (the phonetic system) and Chinese characters. They will also explore important aspects and representations of Chinese culture and basic Chinese language lessons focusing on such topics as greetings, name, age, school, family, hobbies, foods and drinks, money, tastes and flavors, weather, seasons, Chinese holidays and festivals, clothing and shoes, colors and appearance.
