Mandarin Chinese (Phase 1–Phase 3: Mandarin Expo, Mandarin 1 & Mandarin 2) is a three-year introductory language program designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are learning Chinese in a non-Chinese environment.

Throughout this course sequence, students build a strong foundation in Mandarin through pinyin (the phonetic system), Chinese character recognition and writing, and essential communication skills. They also explore key elements of Chinese culture while engaging in meaningful language use across a variety of real-world contexts.

Our units cover topics such as greetings, names and ages, school life, family, hobbies, foods and drinks, money, tastes and flavors, weather and seasons, Chinese holidays and festivals, clothing and shoes, colors, and personal appearance. These themes help students develop practical conversational skills while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture.
