Avery plans on attending Columbia University in the fall and majoring in political science. There is a possibility of adding a Spanish minor, but she has not yet decided.
Her advice for students studying for the Seal of Biliteracy exam is participating in class and doing Duolingo over the summer "if you're really passionate about the language." She also suggests "walking around the house thinking in Spanish," to help increase fluency.
Her favorite memory of Spanish class was celebrating Mrs. Campbell with a farewell party as "she is an amazing Spanish teacher".
To Avery, biliteracy means being able to connect with more people in the world and it opens up the opportunity to go to more places. It means being able to "experience the world" through other cultures, travel, and study abroad opportunities.
She wants to use Spanish in her future career in political science in a way to enhance international relations and through communicating with a large portion of the US population who are Spanish speaking. She wants to travel and use the language as well. As a final note, she adds the importance of "taking your time" on the exam as the test changes based on the abilities of the test taker.
