Abstract. The paper summarizes the essence of business ecosystems as a model of strategic partnership in the context of digital transformation of the economy. The possibilities of forming a new business model – an ecosystem as the basis for business sustainability are considered. A retrospective analysis of the development of the concept of "business ecosystem" is carried out. An understanding of the concept of "business ecosystem" is provided. The main characteristics of the form of business organization are highlighted. It is noted that the ecosystem includes a set of dynamically developing elements that interact with each other to achieve a single goal. The advantages and disadvantages of forming a business ecosystem are presented. The parameters for evaluating the effectiveness of the business ecosystem are characterized. The necessary resource support for the formation of a business ecosystem is determined.
