Overview
Developments in engineering have had a massive impact on every aspect of our daily lives: the buildings we live and work in, the cars we drive and the computers, smartphones and tablets we use have all been developed as a result of engineering. Engineering ideas are constantly evolving and new engineering innovations developed, making this a dynamic and exciting area to study and in which to work.
This exciting new GCSE at HIS will introduce students to a host of new technologies, helping them to gain practical skills and understanding to inspire a lifelong interest in engineering. It will particularly appeal to students who enjoy being creative, with an affinity for science, drawing, design, maths and problem-solving.

Throughout this GCSE Engineering course you will gain an insight into some of the aspects that make engineering such an interesting subject. You will be given the opportunity to develop a knowledge and understanding of a wide range engineering ideas, techniques and skills, including:
engineering materials, their properties and characteristics
manufacturing processes and techniques, and how they are carried out
the use and role of the mechanical, electrical, electronic, structural and pneumatic systems within engineering settings
a range of testing and investigation methods that engineers use
the impact that modern technologies and the engineering industry have on production, society and the environment
how to apply a range of engineering skills to help solve practical engineering problems
