IGCSE, International GCSE and GCSE are international qualifications recognised by universities and employers around the world as evidence of real academic ability. They are excellent preparation for the workplace or as the building blocks for A-Level study and further education.
Aims of the courses
IGCSE, GCSE and International GCSE courses aim to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the subject content, developing the student’s skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, preparing them for the next stage in their education. Most subjects are examined through written examination paper, taken at the end of the two-year course between April and June in the second year of study. Some courses may have practical or coursework components. Please check the individual subject pages for more details of subject content, assessment and progression.
Assessment Overview
Cambridge IGCSE is graded A*, A, B, C, D, E, F or G, the highest grade being A*. In some subjects candidates take examinations at either Core or Extended levels, depending on their ability. All grades from A* to G are considered to be passes, however students should aim to achieve a C grade or higher, as many jobs and further education courses will require at least C grades. Edexcel/AQA GCSE and International GCSE’s are graded 9-1, with 9 being the highest grade awarded.
