Dear students and parents,
As students (and their parents) come to the end of their International GCSE journey, they are faced with an important decision on what to do next. Educational options up to this point has been limited (IGCSE or SPM being the main options) but pre-University pathways in Malaysia are very diverse.
We understand and empathise with parents on the complexities and challenges of making this choice. The main objectives of a pre-University course is to help a student:
gain acceptance into a University of choice
to possess the skills, experience and attitude that allows them to succeed in university and beyond
At HIS, we are committed to not only providing our students the most well-accepted and preferred qualification in the world, but to provide a comprehensive and bespoke Sixth Form experience to every one of our students. In the two years of Sixth Form, we want our students to be anchored into a culture of excellence and to develop a 'can do' attitude; to be challenged to step out of their comfort zones and for them to truly take ownership of their decisions and actions moving forward.
The world is changing at an unprecedented rate. As we deal with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the effects of a global pandemic, students need to be malleable and flexible. There is no truly tried and tested formula to prepare for a future that the world has never faced. Therefore, the Sixth Form team are always open to working alongside parents, students and the community at large to constantly improve the learning and growing experience of everyone at Sixth Form.
With the continuous success and growth of the Sixth Form, we will be occupying the newly developed Sixth Form Centre at the school as early as January 2022. We thank you for your faith in HIS and look forward to having you continue the journey with us .

A-Levels are internationally recognised qualifications that are required for entry into many university courses and professional training opportunities. Every year, thousands of students with AS & A-Levels gain places at leading universities worldwide. Accepted across 195 countries, AS & A-Levels are valued by top universities around the world including those in the UK, USA (including Ivy League universities), Europe, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
GCE A-Level courses aim to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the subject content, developing the student’s skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, preparing them for tertiary education. Students, with their parents, will receive consultation with the school's Sixth Form leadership team to advise them on the number and type of subjects they could undertake at HIS. Most students will take the AS Level examinations at the end of Year 12 and the A2 examinations at the end of Year 13.
Most subjects are examined through written examination paper. Some courses may have practical or coursework components. Please check the individual subject pages for more details of subject content, assessment and progression.
A carefully though-out subject combination will be complemented with a comprehensive Sixth Form Studies programme that will provide students with a diverse and extensive profile of accomplishments that will be the basis for successful applications and transition into Higher Education.
The A-Level is reported on a grade scale from A* (highest) to E (minimum required performance).
There is no A* grade for AS Levels, which run from grade A to E.
This booklet, together with the advice, research and guidance from career websites, teachers and parents/guardians will allow informed decisions to be made about your future.
